Sheffield Wednesday fans have responded with delight on Twitter to the news that new signing Julian Borner has won the Player of the Month award at Hillsborough.
The German defender joined the club on a free this season after playing much of his football in Germany’s second tier, Bundesliga 2.
The 28-year-old was previously skipper at Arminia Bielefeld, where he won promotion to the Bundesliga 2 with the club before helping them solidify themselves within that division.
It’s been a good start for Borner, with the club currently sitting 11th after six games, winning three and losing three.
His statistics have reflected his good performances. So far, he leads the charts for both clearances (4.7) and interceptions (2.3) per game for Wednesday, having an average WhoScored rating of 7.04 – the most for a defender in their squad (all stats per WhoScored).
Unsurprisingly, Wednesday fans loved to see their new signing win the award – and many fans backed him to be a success at the club, with one even suggesting he is future captain material.

one player so far that we can be confident he will put a good shift in.Let's look at our attackers instead as something needs to happen.Borner is great and can manage the defence but my question is who is going to score goals for us this year?Which striker can score consistently?
