Tottenham Hotspur: Spurs waiting for Franck Kessie’s decision

According to a report by Milan News, who quote Italian journalist Sandro Sabatini (via Sport Witness), Tottenham are in a good position in the transfer race for AC Milan’s Franck Kessie, having matched his own club’s offer and Paris Saint-Germain’s proposal.

The Lowdown: Contract set to expire

Kessie has now reached the final six months of his AC Milan contract, which is set to expire at the end of June.

Spurs latest updates!

Having joined on loan from fellow Italian side Atalanta in 2019, the Ivory Coast international signed a permanent three-year deal as a promising 22-year-old, who was highly sought-after across Europe. However, club and player have failed to come to an agreement over any contract extension, leaving the midfielder a free agent in the summer.

Kessie has previously stated his commitment to the club, saying that he is happy with the Rossoneri, and supporters duly felt reassured that a contract renewal was imminent. However, this clearly never came to fruition, to the annoyance of many Milan fans, and the 25-year-old is set to leave the club on a free transfer this year.

The Latest: Tottenham match PSG’s proposal

According to a report by Milan News, who quote Italian journalist Sandro Sabatini (as relayed by Sport Witness), Tottenham have matched the contract offers of Milan and PSG, so the decision will rest on Kessie and his advisors, unless a club chooses to offer more money.

Sabatini was quoted as saying: “If the agent has gone around the seven churches and it seems that there is no offer higher than that of Milan, Tottenham or PSG, possibly the 6.5 million euros per year is the fair valuation for the player.”

Spurs and PSG have been interested in the player since contract proposals stalled with Milan, and it appears that this interest has carried on into the January transfer window.

The Verdict: Could be incredibly useful for Conte

AC Milan manager Stefano Pioli has painted a glowing picture of the Ivorian, who calls himself the ‘The President’ of the team due to his leadership traits. saying: “Franck is a complete player.

“He gives us physicality, energy, quality, protects the defence and knits the moves going forward too. He has this eternally positive mentality during the matches, he’s the first to help out a teammate or reassure them. This is a young side that needs guidance and encouragement, so Kessie is invaluable in that sense.”

If Spurs decide to clear out their midfield department, with the likes of Dele Alli, Harry Winks and Tanguy Ndombele all rumoured to be potentially leaving the club, Kessie could prove to be an incredibly useful signing for Antonio Conte. His excellent 90% passing success rate is matched only by Oliver Skipp in N17, while he actually has more league goals this season (five) than Harry Kane (four).

However, it is evident that they will face stiff competition from rivals across Europe, who will also be pursuing the midfielder’s signature.
