Sunderland fans will be longing for the day that they get back into the Premier League but at the moment they’re a couple of seasons away from doing that at least.
The Black Cats have struggled in recent years to put it very lightly, and it is clear that there is plenty of work that needs doing at the club to turn things around.
Phil Parkinson and the players will know this, though, as the expectation at Sunderland is higher than at most League One sides, and that is something that all involved will have to relish.
Eventually, Black Cats fans want to be back in the Premier League and fighting it out with the top sides, as well as playing Newcastle United in the Tyne-Wear derby.
It’s one of the great fixtures of English football, and Sunderland recently looked back on one of their famous wins against their old rivals on Twitter.
