Sunderland played host to Gillingham in Sky Bet League One on Saturday afternoon as they went in search of a big three points in terms of their challenge to get back into the Sky Bet Championship.
The Black Cats had dropped points in important matches going into this clash. A late draw with Fleetwood and a loss to Coventry City had meant that this was almost a must-win game in order to really keep pace in terms of the automatic spots.
Gillingham, though, were going to prove no mugs. Despite a recent loss to AFC Wimbledon they have looked stronger and stronger as the season has gone on under Steve Evans and, indeed, they still have a chance of making the play-offs themselves.
And, indeed, they showed that fighting spirit as they left it late to get an equaliser, despite Sunderland going in front minutes before via a Kyle Lafferty goal.
Let’s take a look at how Black Cats fans reacted to the dropped points, as they slammed the players as ‘bottle jobs’ and ‘absolutely useless’:

Absolutely useless, throwing it away again. All this talk of a 100pt season from the owners and we’re scrapping to stay in the playoffs.
