Sunderland thrashed Wycombe Wanderers 4-0 at the Stadium of Light to climb into the League One play-off places. Indeed, three first-half goals came in the first 21 minutes, ending the game as a contest within the first quarter. Promisingly, the Black Cats are now sixth, ahead of Portsmouth on goal difference and just six points off the top two.
The result was a big statement from Phil Parkinson’s men, with Wycombe currently sat in second place in League One. The former Bolton manager won just two of his first 14 games in charge on Wearside but has transformed their fortunes to charge towards the top of the table of late.
Much needed positivity seemingly surrounds the club again, after an absolutely dire few years which saw consecutive relegations, managerial merry-go-rounds and changes of ownership. Amid all that, youngster Denver Hume has established himself as a first-team player on the left this season.
Described by former Sunderland icon Gary Rowell as having ‘Premier League potential’, fans have been thrilled to see another academy graduate thrive in the first team, here’s how some of them reacted to his goal and performance.
Thrilled to bits for you x

The whole build up play and finish was one of the best goals I have seen at the SOL. Well done on your performances this season! Our best and most consistent player this campaign without a shadow of a doubt. Keep it up. Haway the lads 🔴⚪
