Sunderland’s woes continued last night as the Black Cats lost to Gillingham in their FA Cup 1st round replay down in Kent.
The Gills emerged narrow victors but, all the same, it’s another loss for Sunderland and Phil Parkinson has quickly got himself a real mountain to climb to try and turn this season around.
They can fully focus on the league now, if they want something to try and hold on to, but unless form improves quickly they are going to face another season stuck in the third tier.
Clearly, there isn’t a great mood at the Stadium of Light once again right now, and Stephen Elliott has reflected on that with this rather frank message on Twitter:
No disrespect to these clubs but in last 5 weeks #safc have lost to Lincoln, Wycombe, Shrewsbury, Oxford, Leicester u21s, Scunthorpe and now Gillingham. Something is seriously wrong in the club and from top to bottom it has to be fixed quick, as this just cannot be accepted

He’s got a point too.
A club like Sunderland should be smashing this league up but, at the moment, they are getting dragged further into the mire with no real light at the end of the tunnel.
