Sunderland took a point from their first game of the new year with them drawing with Fleetwood Town away from home in what was a pretty intriguing watch for the neutral.
The Black Cats were looking to build on their win over Doncaster Rovers at the end of December but fell behind thanks to a goal from Ched Evans via the penalty spot.
Indeed, penalties would prove the theme of the game with the Black Cats eventually getting back into matters thanks to Chris Maguire’s own strike from 12 yards.
1-1 it would finish, then, though Sunderland will feel as though they could have won it with the performance they put in and with some decisions perhaps not going their way when they should have.
Even so, Phil Parkinson was left to reflect on a performance and display that he seemed happy with, though not all fans were particularly pleased with how he deemed a draw as ‘terrific’ among other things.
