Sunderland: Lots of fans are fuming with Phil Parkinson after comments from FA Cup tie

Even away from League One action, Phil Parkinson and Sunderland know how to push the buttons of supporters.

“Sometimes you’ve got to roll your sleeves up and get through a period in the game and I don’t think we did that.

“We’ve got another bite of the cherry, we’ve got to do it the hard way and make sure we’re resilient enough to get into round two.”

Sunderland were held to a 1-1 draw at home in the first round of the FA Cup by fellow League One side Gillingham, with Olly Lee’s 46th-minute equaliser being met with no reply from the Black Cats (per BBC Sport), forcing a replay for the two sides to add to Parkinson’s already congested fixture schedule.

And after throwing away the lead, plenty of Sunderland fans on social media were yet again fuming with the club and in particular Parkinson, who gave his post-match thoughts via Sunderland’s official Twitter account which was met with criticism from supporters.
