Sunderland: Many fans have indicated that they won’t miss Charlie Wyke

Charlie Wyke has sustained ankle ligament damage, as confirmed by Phil Parkinson on Sunderland’s official channels.

The 26-year-old was forced off against Wycombe Wanderers to be replaced by Will Grigg, while the nature of the injury has been disclosed, and it is unknown how long the striker will be out for:

“We have a very busy period coming up and we have lost Charlie Wyke to an ankle ligaments injury.

“It doesn’t look good, we will get him scanned quickly and an assessment on that.”

While there is a feeling of sympathy from some that Wyke has suffered the injury, many Sunderland fans don’t think he will be missed on the pitch.

Across League One and the Carabao Cup, Wyke has made 7 starts and 5 substitute appearances, getting 2 goals and 1 assist, as per WhoScored.

This hasn’t been deemed good enough by many, with a lot of Sunderland’s fans putting the team under plenty of scrutiny having dropped down to 10th in the table – which has led to them feeling it is about time somebody else played up front.

Don’t like to see a player injured, more so if they are delivering what they are contracted to do. Unfortunately SAFC have no players qualified to claim that they are strikers. We are absolutely shocking, if I failed to deliver to my manager I would be sacked.

McNulty it’s the nearest thing we have to a good striker. Shame for Wyke picking up an injury but that’s football and a forced change of formation may work
