Stendel was sacked by Barnsley on the same day as Ross was relieved of his duties at the Stadium of Light, though it seems like the German may not be out of a job for too long:

Stendel’s achievements will help his hand if he wants the job, having earned automatic promotion and winning EFL League One Manager of the Year in his only full season as Barnsley manager.
However, there are Sunderland fans who have been questioning the possible appointment, with Barnsley currently sitting 23rd in the Championship table.
The Barnsley fans defending Stendel in the replies to the article, citing the way he was treated by the board and lack of say he had in transfers as reasons for his struggles, do indicate that they could perhaps end up being won round if the German is eventually appointed.
A selection of Twitter reaction to the appointment, including tweets from underwhelmed Sunderland fans, can be seen below:
Even though Barnsley just sacked him due to sub-standard performances and miserable results?

Wouldn’t be my choice, however whoever gets the job I’ll be behind them 100% and give them a chance.

His draw percentage is 27% in his managerial career. Is this really the wisest way to go? Ross’s was slightly higher at 36% at Sunderland but 27% still seems quite high to me.
