Sunderland: Fans criticise Charlie Wyke for missed chances against Coventry

Charlie Wyke has led the line for 16 consecutive games but it appears that Sunderland supporters have grown tired of his continued underperformance after losing 1-0 to Coventry.

He has never been a striker to act as a poacher or score goals, as reflected by his return of 11 goals in 58 games for the Black Cats, but he does offer a physical presence up-front, acting as good foil for Lynden Gooch and Chris Maguire.

However, on Sunday the north-east outfit visited promotion rivals Coventry in a crucially important game, and Wyke let the team down with his poor finishing.

In particular, the 27-year-old should have buried a first-half header, connecting to the ball from a corner just a few yards from goal, but he somehow sent it over.

That characterised his recent performances, as although he found the net against Bristol Rovers, he has now failed to score in six out of Sunderland’s previous seven matches.

Here is some of the reaction from fans to his latest performance.
