Newcastle United fans here in the Tavern are hopeful that their side can secure a striker on deadline day, as the clock continues to run against the Magpies.
Rafa Benitez made it clear that he required a striker this window as a current lack of goalscoring had made it a weakness in the side, and with the Magpies facing the possibility of relegation, it doesn’t take a genius to work out that missing the chance to sign a forward could condemn their survival hopes. And, after Newcastle United have already suffered setbacks in the hopes of signing Daniel Sturridge and Nicolai Jorgensen, their attention has turned elsewhere as they hope to close in on that all-important signing.
Although, as deadline day begins to take its toll on any potential signings, fans are beginning to lose their patience as they frantically refresh their social media feeds hoping that a signing is pushed through. And, they may not have to wait too long, as Newcastle United have made great strides in doing so as they look to the services of new target Islam Slimani.
And, all seems to be positive in terms of coming to some sort of agreement for the Algerian, as the anxious wait goes on. With Newcastle United journalist Lee Ryder taking to his personal Twitter account to notify fans that the club are looking to get a loan deal done for the Leicester City striker, and that talks are running smoothly.
#nufc looking to get loan deal agreed on Slimani. Talks with agent seem positive so far.

Following the post, fans were quick to disregard any chance of this happening after having their hopes dampened with recent supposed signings, as they won’t believe it unless it’s had full confirmation from the club.
Nevertheless, here’s exactly the sort of reaction fans gave off on social media…

I don't want to seem negative as I am very happy that this deal might happen but why all the loan signings? clearly just not wanting to spend any money!!

Sick of this penny pinching. Can a striker not be signed for 20 million??!!
