These 3 Spurs players are out of their depth – Agreed?

The Tottenham Hotspur fans in the Transfer Tavern have put last season behind them as they dance on the pool tables following a strong start to the season.

With the team doing so well to keep the pace last season when many of their rivals folded, there is plenty of optimism bouncing around White Hart Lane these days and even the barman here in the Tavern has tipped them to do well.

Mauricio Pochettino has turned his team into a respectable Premier League outfit, capable of challenging the top order and they’ll need to keep pace if they are to find success this season too.

But who, if anyone, hasn’t started quite so well? Who isn’t pulling their weight in the current crop of Spurs stars?

With that in mind, here are THREE Spurs players that are out of their depth…

Harry Kane

Kane bench

Has been completely anonymous for long spells in games this season and will be desperately searching for something that might be able to get him that scoring spark back.

Gave a seriously lacklustre performance for England against Slovakia in the week and will need to pick it up quickly with Vincent Janssen breathing down his neck for a place in the starting lineup.

The Dutch striker looked decent as Spurs drew with Everton on the opening day and he’ll be keen to oust last seasons star man Kane from the starting XI if he can.

Christian Eriksen

Another one of Spurs’ stars who hasn’t really hit the ground running this season, Christian Eriksen will hope his slight dip in form
won’t become a permanent measure.

Struggled to create chances against a compact Crystal Palace side a couple of weeks ago whilst he was quiet against Liverpool too.

Lots of it might be down to Kane’s poor start to the season- last campaign, the Englishman was the kingpin of the side and he hasn’t quite got running just yet.

If they can both find some form, then expect them to pick it up again but until then, Eriksen may continue to look a little out of his depth.

Jan Vertonghen

Normally one of Spurs’ most reliable individuals, Jan Vertonghen has looked a little shaky on more than a handful of occasions already this season.

Gerard Deulofeu caused him lots of problems in their season opener against Everton and whilst he was good in the air on the day, defensively he might want to regroup before teams begin to figure him out.

Likewise, against Liverpool, he didn’t enjoy the strongest of afternoons either.

The pace of Sadio Mane and Phillipe Coutinho were causing him serious problems and it’s something he’ll have to work on if he’s to continue as a key figure in this Spurs side.
