The Newcastle United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are nervous about the summer window. Indeed, with Rafa Benitez already linked with a move away from the club, the punters propping up our bar aren’t all too happy.
Now, one of their most important players has been touted for a summer exit. According to the Independent, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has targeted Toon skipper Jamaal Lascelles as part of a defensive rebuild this summer, after the former Nottingham Forest man lead his side to a 10th-placed finish in the Premier League.
At just 24-years-old, Lascelles is one of the best young English central defenders in the Premier League and it’s easy to see why the Reds would be keen. However, he’s a hugely popular figure on Tyneside and arguably the Magpies’ captain since Shearer, so the idea of losing him would seriously scare our resident Geordies.
