Aston Villa: Thomas Frank discusses future of Said Benrahma

Brentford manager Thomas Frank has said that he wishes Aston Villa target Said Benrahma all the best if he does leave the Bees.

The Villans have been linked with a move for the Algeria international, and they do have a bit more time to get the deal done given that the deadline for domestic transfers from the Football League does not come around until October 16th.

Brentford were defeated by Preston at the weekend, with Benrahma coming off the bench in that clash. After the game itself, Frank was asked about the winger, and he said:

“I hope that one of the best offensive players in the division stays with us, but if not, then I wish him all the best.”

Benrahma was in stunning form last term for Brentford as they were eventually beaten in the play-off final by Fulham – he scored 17 times and provided nine assists in 43 games. That came off the back of a fantastic 2018/19 season as well, when he scored 10 and created a further 15 in the second tier.

He was previously linked with Chelsea, but now Dean Smith appears to be in a good position to sign the player. Whether they need more attacking reinforcements following their 7-2 hammering of Liverpool on Sunday is up for debate, but if a player of this quality is available to sign, it is a chance Villa should take.
