‘What a waste of money!’ shout the Arsenal fans in the Football Transfer Tavern with the news that Tottenham are going to get the chequebook out yet again this summer.
Metro claim that Tottenham like the look of Jackson Martinez and expect to pay around £18 million for the Colombian.
He currently plies his trade for Porto, is one of the highest rated strikers in Europe, and is fully expected to make a move in the summer.
Martinez could be one of many players on the move this summer that are also playing in the World Cup so managers are likely to want to get deals wrapped up early.
Otherwise, chairmen up and down the land could find themselves paying above the odds for players just because they’ve had a successful tournament.
Tottenham have an abundance of players to sell following a terrible transfer window almost 12 months ago.
Only Brazilian midfielder Paulinho and Dane Christian Eriksen have really made the grade at White Hart Lane with Roberto Soldado being a super expensive flop.
Martinez is seen as the ideal replacement for the misfiring Spaniard but Spurs could face a fight from fellow London duo Chelsea and Arsenal.
Tottenham, who are yet to name Tim Sherwood’s successor, could struggle to lure the attacker to London though due to the fact that they didn’t qualify for the Champions League.
Tottenham fans. Is Martinez the real deal or are you about to waste yet another £18 million on a player that fails to fit the bill?

Yet another unknown player, why i on earth did we not keep Chaulker, get a 40m striker and a 40m midfielder, no Mr Levy feels the need to change the team in one fail swoop and like most, experts miracle COYS
Why would Martinez go to the tin-pot Totts???
He would only move to a BIG club.
Spurs are not and have never been a Big club.
53 years no title proves that!!!!
I have been supporting spurs for over 30 years I’m from Bolton just like to say that to improve our chances of playing fancy football 4 changes need to be made 2 strikers 1 new left back and right back keep Ericsson and paulinio and sell the rest big mistake waisting all that money on 9 players should have bought 3 to 4 more experienced known players
