In a recent article for Football.London, Alasdair Gold claimed that it is up to Daniel Levy to repair the broken relationship between Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli and Jose Mourinho.

In his piece, Gold states his belief that Levy won the battle to keep Alli at Tottenham for the remainder of the season, with Mourinho said to have been more than ‘willing to move Alli on’ to Paris Saint-Germain, with whom the midfielder was heavily linked this January.

Can you name these 10 former Spurs stars? Let's get started! Who is this?

Gold continues by claiming that ‘many at Tottenham, including Levy’, believe that the £34.2 million-rated 24-year-old can still play a big part in the Spurs side going forwards, as well as the fact that the Tottenham chairman ‘would also have seen the problems’ in selling Alli in a market ‘without much money around’.

Finally, Gold puts the onus on Levy to ‘bridge the divide’ between Mourinho and Alli, in order for the club to ‘get the best out of the player again’.

Considering the fact that, over the previous weeks and months, Tottenham have often struggled to score a decisive goal in matches – most noticeably in their 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace, their 1-1 draw with Fulham and their 1-0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion – leaving an attacking midfielder who has scored 64 goals and provided 57 assists over 234 appearances for the club out of the side does not appear to make a great deal of sense.

And, despite Gold’s suggestion that Levy should be the man to fix Mourinho’s relationship with Alli, perhaps it could be argued that the 57-year-old should put whatever personal issues he has with the midfielder aside and mend the fractured relationship himself.
