Writing on Twitter, Alasdair Gold confirmed some ‘great news’ for Tottenham as defender Japhet Tanganga returns from injury – with Jose Mourinho’s options for the games ahead now being given a huge boost.
Tanganga, who was sidelined with an ‘unlucky’ injury according to Mourinho, is now back in training for Spurs and could give his side a defensive boost just before the international break.
Should Mourinho give Tanganga more game time this season?
Yes, 100%, great potential
No, play Rodon more
Tanganga boost for Spurs
The defensive colossus, who can play as both a right-back and at centre-half, has suffered from his fair share of fitness issues since the summer – picking up a thigh muscle strain back in late August which caused him to miss six games in all competitions (Transfermarkt).
Now, ahead of Spurs’ group stage encounter with Ludogorets in the Europa League, Tanganga has seemingly returned to training – as confirmed by reliable journalist Gold on Twitter.

Indeed, as he is a versatile, towering defender who can shift into different roles when required – Tanganga’s return could give Mourinho a much-needed option, especially as new signing Joe Rodon is ineligible to play in both the Carabao Cup and the Europa League.
Until recently, Spurs had been relying on Davinson Sanchez and Toby Alderweireld as a partnership due to the absences of Tanganga and Eric Dier.
Both men have now returned to the fold, and given Mourinho’s aim to push for silverware, it could indeed be ‘great news’.
