According to a report by Football League World, Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing Norwich City star Todd Cantwell ahead of a potential move – with fellow Premier League outfit Leicester City also monitoring his situation at Carrow Road.
The attacking midfielder, who has thrived in England’s second tier under Daniel Farke when fit, scoring two goals and assisting two others in 11 Championship starts (WhoScored), is now attracting the interest of Spurs as they reportedly eye attacking midfield options for the future.
Tottenham eyeing Cantwell
Cantwell has long been admired by top flight outfits since the Canaries’ relegation last campaign, with Leeds United reportedly tabling a £15 million bid for the player last summer (Football Insider).
Now, according to Football League World, Spurs are monitoring Cantwell alongside Leicester – but their sources understand that chairman Levy, while taking an interest, isn’t fond of entering a bidding war for the 22-year-old and is merely keeping tabs on him at this stage.
Transfer Tavern take
Given his current and past plaudits, it’s not difficult to see why the Lilywhites have taken an interest.
Speaking to EFL on Quest just last week, former Spurs striker and pundit Darren Bent hailed Cantwell as ‘superb’ – going on to say it is ‘massive’ for Norwich that they managed to keep hold of him (Twitter).
As well as this, Cantwell has been likened to wantaway Tottenham ace Dele Alli in the past – with journalist Graham Ruthven, writing for The Sportsman, claiming there is an ‘element‘ of Alli in the Norwich attacker’s playing style.
Time will tell whether Spurs do lodge a pursuit for the £15.3 million-rated playmaker (Transfermarkt), but Levy’s eye has been drawn according to this report.
