Rangers: Hugh Burns delivers strong verdict on George Edmundson

Rock Sport Radio pundit and regular Rangers TV co-commentator, Hugh Burns believes that George Edmundson is the man that should be partnering Connor Goldson at centre-half following his display in the 5-0 hammering of Hamilton on Sunday.

Describing his display as “magnificent” and “oozing class” Burns was particularly impressed with the way Edmundson distributed the ball from the back. The way that the summer signing from Oldham released the ball quicker to either full-back stood out compared to what Burns perceives as a slower build-up when Nikola Katic plays.

Edmundson has had game time limited so far this season due to the solid partnership of Goldson and Katic, whilst there was also the arrival of a £3m centre half in Swedish international, Filip Helander.

Manager, Steven Gerrard heaped praise on Edmundson in his post-match interview via The Evening Times:

“I wanted him to get used to how we play and have a look at our opposition. He’s looked in, been learning and working ever so hard for his opportunity. That came today and he took it, I thought he was faultless. Outstanding.”

Rangers fans agreed with Gerrard in his assessment of Edmundson, but more notable was that a lot of fans agreed with Burns in that he should get the nod ahead of his more experienced colleagues.
