It is annoying for Leeds that they cannot celebrate their first season back in the Premier League in around 30 years with fans in the stadium.
Due to the second UK lockdown enforced by the pandemic, Phil Hay has urged Leeds fans to temper their expectations.
Phil Hay’s latest words on Leeds’ survival and staying up
Tweeting out his latest article for The Athletic, Hay said: ‘Leeds United could have gone third last night – but a fresh lockdown, a further delay in the return of crowds and the financial implications for the club mean Premier League survival is more imperative than ever.’
The rollercoaster of the Premier League
The fact that six points separate first and sixteenth highlights how wild the start of the campaign has been. Leeds should definitely be happy with ten points and for now, should be aiming for the magic ’40’ points that a lot of sides target.
Hay’s latest comments make a lot of sense and it will be massive if Leeds stay up this campaign. A lot of supporters of the club will be happy with the start and be hoping for more than just a relegation battle.
However, if Bielsa keeps them up, thus keeping the club in the cash-rich Premier League, it will have to be considered a good season, regardless of how carried away fans may have gotten after the positive start.
In other news, a former Leeds player has piled the praise on one player. Have a read who it is here!
