Our Aston Villa fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping to see some good signings this January to see them up the table, and could see Sam Johnstone as the first according to The Express & Star.
The Villa Park club have been in good form in recent times under Steve Bruce and our local Villans are feeling confident they can at least have a good surge at the play-offs this season.
Whether they do or not, could largely depend on who they bring in in January to help their cause and it looks like Johnstone could be on his way in.
The young stopper is currently at Manchester United but is behind both Sergio Romero and David De Gea in the pecking order at the club so he could be tempted to move out and get some more playing action.
Johnstone would compete with Pierluigi Gollini and Mark Bunn for the starting spot between the sticks for Villa and our landlord reckons if he can show the talent that saw United bring him through, they’ll be getting a top player.
