It’s not very often that you find yourself writing about an Alan Hutton wonder goal, and even when you do you’d expect it to be a thunder strike from distance, not a mazy dribbling run past five players finished off with his weak foot into the bottom corner, but here we are. The Villains will always remember Hutton and yesterday was without a doubt his finest moment in claret and blue.

Alan Hutton had been dubbed ‘The Scottish Cafu’ long before he scored his worldie yesterday, but after he bagged against Birmingham in such fashion he’s immortalised himself in Aston folklore. It was an incredible moment for a man who has given so much to Aston Villa in his career and if some fans believed he was still to redeem himself after being a part of The Villains’ ‘bomb squad’ that went down in 2016, they don’t anymore.
Aside from being a local derby where pride was on the line, yesterday presented itself as a huge opportunity to make ground on a playoff place. Both the Villains and The Blues went into the clash on 24 points and with the winner having the chance to move up to 8th it was a game that had so much meaning. Villa’s four goals were just too much for Garry Monk’s side, though, and it will be a derby that lives long in the memory for an abundance of reasons, with Hutton’s goal being the pick of them.

If Hutton had scored a goal half as good as his strike yesterday then the fans would have been in raptures, so to see him do what he did will be something that those Villains will never forget.
