Aston Villa lost 2-1 last night and the initial bubble of Dean Smith’s arrival has burst. After beating Swansea 1-0 in their first game under the ex-Brentford man, the Canaries undid the work done by Smith with a 2-1 home win over The Villains, although the fans need to give him time.

Aston Villa are a side that deserves to be in the Premier League when you consider their fans base and their history, although if you don’t perform on the pitch you won’t be rewarded with top-flight football. Smith will know this and he’ll be hoping that he can quickly instil his attacking mentality into his side and get the football up to the level that everyone knows they can play with their current crop of players.
Smith faces a tough run of fixtures as they have games against QPR, Bolton, Derby and Birmingham in their next four and the fans will have to be realistic as they head into these games. If the Villains can register eight points from these four games and get through them unbeaten then there’s no doubt that things will be on the up for Villa and given how close the Championship is at the moment then there’s no reason why they can’t be in the promotion mix.
