It’s been a strange season for Leeds United who have gone from title favourites to very nearly dropping out of the automatic spots due to some pretty poor form, and with a difficult set of fixtures coming up we may see their dreams dashed yet again.
Marcelo Bielsa and his men now have under half the season to revive the form that made that such strong candidates for bookies at the start, and with only two wins in eight games, his teams form makes for very, very poor viewing.
Their high octane, highly technical, tiki-taka brand of football has finally been sussed out by their opponents, who now setup accordingly to hit them on the counter, and we’re yet Bielsa come up with a response to the issue.
One of the more glaring and definitely manageable problems, had they been more active in the transfer market, is the number of injuries they’ve faced over the season.
Leeds United’s move for Swansea’s Daniel James was due to address their shortage of wingers had it not fallen through at the 11th hour of transfer deadline day (via Wales Online), and because of it, they’ve been left stranded.
Interestingly, reports by the Sun suggest Leeds United are turning their attention away from the young man in favour of experienced Burnley winger Aaron Lennon.
Although Lennon has established himself as a key element on Burnley’s plans, the allure of returning to his boyhood, where he became the youngest player to play in the Premier League back in 2003, may be too much to turn down. Especially if they make it back into the top-flight.
Speaking to Football League World, former Leeds United player Stephen Warnock said:
“It’s his old club, so he’ll know the area very well and he’ll know the club very well too.”
“He would bring a lot of experience to the team, and when you look at the young players coming through, the amount they can learn from him will be incredible.”
“It’s difficult to say how he’d fit into this team at this moment of time, however, as we don’t know if they are going to be in the Premier League, we don’t know if they are going to still be in the Championship, and we don’t even know if he’s going to move there.”
Looks to be a thumbs up from him. And it’s not hard to see why.
