Aaron Ramsdale has held talks with West Ham as he looks to secure an immediate Premier League return. The England international endured an unfortunate third relegation from the Premier League this season when his Southampton side finished last.
It was a horror campaign for the Saints, who conceded 86 goals and finished just one point better off (12) than the Premier League’s all time lowest points collected record held by Derby. Ramsdale only joined Southampton last season in an £18m deal from Arsenal, and the club are said to be demanding £20m for his services now as reported by talkSports.
Southampton are believed to be open to offers for the player as they look to offload his hefty £100,000 per-week salary.
West Ham are believed to be the favourites for Ramsdale’s signature, with manager Graham Potter keen on the 27 year old after long serving keeper Lukasz Fabianksi departed the club this summer.
Ramsdale has impressed in his Premier League stints despite his relegations.
He was the lone bright spot for Sheffield United during the 2020/21 season, earning him a £30m move to Arsenal in 2021 – an Arsenal club record for a goalkeeper. He was Arsenal’s first choice for the 2021/22 and 2022/23 campaigns, form that earned him a call up to the England set up where he made five appearances.

He found himself frozen out in 2023 however following the arrival of David Raya. Ramsdale made just 11 appearances to Raya’s 41 during the 2023/2024 season, prompting a switch to Southampton last summer.
Speaking to Talksports in the summer of 2024 following his move to the Saints, Ramsdale said: “I’ve been around football long enough that the manager’s decision is the manager’s decision.”
“I tried my best to change his mind and force my way back in. His mind was set and at the same time David had a great season.”
“You can have all the upset or qualms about being taken out but when someone else is delivering, you’ve just got to take it on the chin.”
“It was tough but I’ve found a new home and I’m looking forward to playing again. You move on, there’s no bad blood and you’ve got to restart your career again.”
Ramsdale will hope a move back to London will help him retain his place in the England setup ahead of next summer’s World Cup. After a whirlwind couple years for the player, he will hope to find stability and regain his form that saw him highly regarded at one point.
