West Ham United have endured a poor start to their Premier League campaign, but there is still time to strengthen the squad.
With just one week remaining in the summer transfer window, few clubs appear more in need of reinforcements than the Hammers.
After opening fixtures against newly-promoted Sunderland and London rivals Chelsea, the Irons have already conceded eight goals, exposing major defensive flaws.
Graham Potter will be working to address those issues on the pitch, but midfield is an area where the squad looks worryingly thin.
Speaking on West Ham TV, the former Chelsea boss responded to questions about new incomings:
“It’s going to be a busy few days.”
“We need to work hard and we need to try our best to improve (the team) and improve the players we have and try to look for players who can help us as well from the outside.”
Over the weekend, Edson Álvarez was confirmed to be joining Fenerbahçe on a season-long loan, further depleting West Ham’s options in the centre of the pitch.
Reports now suggest that the club are targeting Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Yves Bissouma in a late move.
According to Football Insider, the East London club have registered their interest and are open to signing the Mali international either permanently or on loan.
Should West Ham sign Yves Bissouma?

Given how exposed the double pivot of James Ward-Prowse and Tomáš Souček looked on Friday night against Chelsea, fresh midfield options would be a welcome addition.
Potter knows Bissouma well from their time together at Brighton and Hove Albion, where the 28-year-old established himself as a dynamic ball-winner.
Once hailed as a “ridiculous player” by James Maddison, Bissouma excels in interceptions, tackling and passing – qualities West Ham urgently require in the centre of the pitch at the London Stadium.
Signed by Spurs in 2022 for an initial £25m, he became a regular under Ange Postecoglou but has yet to feature in either of Tottenham’s league fixtures this season under new boss Thomas Frank.
With his future in North London uncertain, a move to West Ham could be a straightforward deal, which is ideal given the fact that time is running out to secure signings.
For Potter, securing reinforcements is now essential if he is to avoid a prolonged relegation battle, and the hierarchy will be keen to avoid that too.
Bissouma would add grit, experience and familiarity with the manager’s style of play, making him an ideal solution to their lack of midfield depth.
Whether on loan or permanently, it seems a no-brainer for West Ham to push this deal over the line, as the midfielder could prove vital in stabilising their season.
