Bielsa’s Leeds revolution hasn’t been quite the revolution some might have expected so far, with not a huge amount of ins and outs at Elland Road.
Argentine manager Marcelo Bielsa is famed for his meticulous approach and unique tactical method. Bielsa likes a 3-3-1-3 formation, in which players are versatile and adept and playing in several different positions, featuring a high press which gets his teams on the front foot. His innovative style is very attacking, and the Argentine will be looking to make the Whites good to watch as well as securing results in the coming season.
The Whites have solved their goalkeeping issue, bringing in the highly competent Jamal Blackman on a loan deal from Chelsea, but aside from that there has been a lack of activity, although the Whites have been linked with a number on names. The Whites have had a bid accepted for Wolves player Barry Douglas.
However, there is also a need to get rid of players who just have not worked out at Elland Road, or will not fit Bielsa’s style of play. There is little point keeping redundant players on the wage bill.
With that in mind, here are two players Marcelo Bielsa should have sold by now…
Eunan O’Kane is a player who will not fit Bielsa’s style.
He is a player who will see a lot of the ball without doing much effective with it. He looks tidy, but his sideways passing and slowing down of play is the exact opposite of the kind of player to fit the Argentine’s ethos. If Bielsa wants players who can contribute in all phases of play, what the Northern Irishman contributes defensively for the West Yorkshire outfit is questionable.
He has never scored a goal for Leeds United. Bielsa has made a mistake by not moving him on already.
Liam Cooper is another player who looks the wrong fit for a Marcelo Bielsa side.
The Scotsman is not a regular started for the Elland Road outfit, but he just doesn’t look like he has the quality needed to take Leeds United to the next level.
Cooper is valued at £1m by Tranfermarkt.
The Argentine manager should move on Liam Cooper, with a bid accepted for a player the standard of Barry Douglas, there is no need to keep flop Cooper at the club.
