West Ham fans can feel aggrieved to have lost at Old Trafford in the manner which they did. Manuel Pellegrini’s side played some lovely football throughout the game, yet they were downed 2-1 by the Red Devils, courtesy of two Paul Pogba penalties. It would have been different, though, had Felipe Anderson’s offside goal been allowed as he was on-side.

The Brazilian winger did eventually draw the Hammers level when he tapped in past David De Gea, but that goal should have been his second of the game. In the reverse fixture when West Ham faced Manchester United at the London Stadium, it was Felipe Anderson who opened the scoring, and he should have done yesterday as Diogo Dalot was playing Anderson on when the linesman flagged him.
That goal, had it been given, would have made for a cracking start to the game. Had the Hammers smashed in the opener it would have been a different game, and in the end, the mistake of ruling it out would prove to be costly as referee Graham Scott went on to award two penalties to the home side. The 2-1 was hardly just, and the Hammers will now be desperate to get a result against Leicester next time out.
