Taking to Twitter, The Athletic’s Roshane Thomas has shared a worrying injury update regarding West Ham ace Jarrod Bowen.

The Lowdown: Initial findings

During the Irons' 1-0 defeat to Liverpool earlier this month, the 25-year-old was forced off prematurely, having suffered an injury to his foot.

The east London club subsequently announced that their star winger had not sustained any significant damage following the incident, duly sparking hope for a return in the Europa League round of 16 second leg clash against Sevilla.

However, the Englishman has remained on the sidelines for longer than first expected, having missed the Hammers’ last four games since limping off at Anfield.

The Latest: Thomas’ update on Bowen

Thomas has now provided fans with an update over Bowen’s injury situation.

Taking to Twitter as he shared a corresponding article from The Athletic's David Ornstein, the West Ham journalist said: “EXCL: Jarrod Bowen’s injury is worse than first feared. The winger could miss Europa League quarter-final meetings with Lyon due to a fractured bone in his foot. #WHUFC”.

The first leg against the Ligue 1 outfit is scheduled for April 7, whilst the return fixture is set to take place the following Thursday.

The Verdict: Huge blow for West Ham

This will come as a huge blow to Moyes, who would have been hoping to have the in-form attacker back fully fit for the massive clash against Lyon.

Despite missing the last four games, Bowen remains West Ham’s top scorer this season, having netted 12 goals in all competitions. His importance to the Irons’ frontline has seen incredible progress over the past year, demonstrated by his impressive ranking in the 88th percentile for assists and non-penalty expected goals (via FBRef).

This injury has also emerged at a bad time for Bowen personally. It has been reported that England manager Gareth Southgate is a big admirer of the former Hull City man, whose chances of making his national team debut in upcoming friendlies against Switzerland and Ivory Coast have now been scuppered by this injury.
