After a frustrating 2024/25 campaign that ended in a 14th-place finish, it’s no secret that defensive reinforcements are a priority for West Ham United this summer.
The loss of a key attacking figure in Mohammed Kudus to Tottenham has drawn plenty of attention — but issues at the back may be even more pressing. Conceding 62 goals in the league last term, far more than most of the clubs around them, highlighted the need for a new approach, particularly between the posts.
The Hammers have already made some smart moves defensively — bringing in full-back Kyle Walker-Peters and versatile prospect El Hadji Malick Diouf, who can also operate in midfield.
And now it appears they’re targeting a new goalkeeper too.
Hammers to Make Approach for Hermansen

According to Sky Sports, West Ham United are interested in Leicester City goalkeeper Mads Hermansen, and a formal approach is expected soon.
The club are in the market for a new No.1 after long-serving shot-stopper Lukasz Fabianski departed upon the expiry of his contract earlier this month.
Hermansen, 24, was one of the standout performers in an otherwise disappointing Leicester side that suffered relegation. The Dane started 27 Premier League games and impressed with his reflexes, distribution, and composure.
There’s also a familiar face at the London Stadium in new goalkeeping coach Casper Ankergren, who worked closely with Hermansen during their time together at Brøndby and is believed to be an admirer of the player.
The Danish international, who is valued at £13 million, is under contract at Leicester until 2028, but the Foxes are expected to need to make sales before investing in new arrivals. Hermansen, widely viewed as one of their most valuable assets, could therefore be allowed to leave if the price is right.
Mark Schwarzer, the Premier League’s second-most capped goalkeeper and third all-time for clean sheets, previously described Hermansen as “brilliant” — and that endorsement alone should raise eyebrows across the division.
