Everton: Toffees ‘plotting’ Michail Antonio move

Everton are reportedly ‘plotting’ a deadline day move for West Ham United striker Michail Antonio.

The Lowdown: Could leave…

The Jamaica international recently admitted on The Footballer’s Football Podcast podcast (via talkSPORT) that a move away from the London Stadium before Tuesday’s transfer deadline has not been ruled out, adding that he has been having ‘talks’ over his future.

The 32-year-old has not always been a regular under David Moyes so far this season, starting just nine of the Hammers’ 20 games in the Premier League so far (Transfermarkt), and with the signing of Danny Ings from Aston Villa, they may be inclined to let him go.

The Latest: Everton ‘plotting’ Antonio move

As per The Sunday Mirror (via Goodison News), Everton are ‘plotting’ a deadline day move for Antonio, but they face competition from both Wolves and Nottingham Forest for his signature.

The Jamaica international has only 18 months left on his current contract at the London Stadium, and his refusal to rule out an exit means that the Irons might just be persuaded to sell if a ‘serious offer’ is made.

The Verdict: Worth a shot

Everton are in desperate need of attacking reinforcements, given the imminent departure of Anthony Gordon to Newcastle United and their status as the second-lowest scorers in the Premier League with a mere 15 goals.

Once hailed as ‘frightening‘ by former top-flight manager Harry Redknapp, Antonio is a proven scorer in the division, having reached double figures in his last three full Premier League seasons, while he has also contributed a handy 35 assists over his career at that level (Transfermarkt).

He has proven to be a real handful for defenders, ranking in the 93rd percentile of all forwards in Europe’s top five leagues for average dribbles completed per game over the past year, and he could be exactly the kind of striker that the Toffees need in order to help fire them away from the relegation zone.
