Former West Ham United striker Lucas Perez is a surprise target for Spanish giants Barcelona, that is according to a report from AS.
Whilst the transfer window is now closed, the Catalonians could still be allowed to make one signing due to an injury picked up by Ousmane Dembele which has left them short of forwards. Indeed, according to ESPN the Royal Spanish Football Federation will allow the club to bring in one player but they will only be allowed to spend up to €12 million (£10.1m).
Perez is currently playing for Barcelona’s La Liga rivals Alaves where he has scored nine goals in 22 league appearances, whilst also chipping in with four assists (Transfermarkt).
Prior to that, the 31-year-old was at West Ham, where he struggled to make much of an impact at all. Indeed, he only made 15 Premier League appearances which amounted to just 465 minutes on the pitch, scoring three goals in the process (Transfermarkt).
He was deemed surplus to requirements in the summer and therefore the Hammers sold him to Alaves for a reported fee of just £2.21 million (Sky Sports).
Unsurprisingly many West Ham fans are stunned that a player who failed to make it at the London Stadium is potentially moving to the Nou Camp, with some suggesting that it is a little like when Julien Faubert joined Real Madrid on loan in 2009 (RTE). Here is how some have reacted on Twitter…
This reminds me of Faubert going to Real Madrid
