The West Ham fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that their season will improve…

It has been a mixed start to the campaign for the Hammers, and whilst they’re still performing well below expectations, there is still a lot of hope in the Transfer Tavern.

After all, their squad is full of top quality talent, and that should be enough to secure safety and push the team on this season.

There has been a lot of criticism aimed at the players over the last 18 months or so, but our landlord thinks that Slaven Bilic should also be in the firing line more directly. His position has been under strain, and with good reason given his side’s poor form.

However, his decisions go far beyond overseeing a bad spell of form. He has also made a number of mistakes throughout his tenure that could cost the club in the present and, indeed, the future.

With that said, here are 2 big mistakes that Bilic has made since joining West Ham…

 Transfer Failings

Slaven Bilic certainly deserves some blame for his side’s form, given that it has been, in large part, due to the failings of a number of recent signings.

The likes of Gokhan Tore and Simeone Zaza have been brought in by the manager only to desperately struggle in the Premier League, and unfortunately for Bilic, the buck stops with him.

He has, of course, had a few successes – notably Dimitri Payet – but they have been few and far between.

If he had signed better players, they wouldn’t be in such a bad spot.

 Misusing Michail Antonio

Michail Antonio had a great run in defence, but Slaven Bilic has massively misused him during his time at the club.

He has proven his quality in front of goal, yet Bilic has continued to persist with him in a wing-back role.

This is particularly surprising given that Sam Byram has been waiting in the wings and has looked more than ready to feature on a regular basis.

This could cost the club in the future.
