3 reasons Spurs should sell Kevin Wimmer as soon as possible

The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are ready to see him depart…

Kevin Wimmer joined Tottenham last year, and whilst he has looked decent in parts – he hasn’t exactly been the most impressive of Tottenham’s recent crop of signings.

He has remained a bit-part player since his arrival, and at points this season – he hasn’t been involved at all.

There was no surprise in the Transfer Tavern, then, when news began to emerge that suggested that the defender could be set for a White Hart Lane departure – with a host of sides reportedly interested.

Never likely to be a key player under Pochettino, the news was expected by a few of the Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern – and our landlord thinks that the deal needs to happen sooner, rather than later.

With that said, here are 3 reasons Spurs should sell Kevin Wimmer as soon as possible…

 Lack of Game Time

Simply put, Kevin Wimmer has not, and never will be, a first team player for Tottenham.

He has thus far been limited to a bit-part role behind the likes of Vertonghen and Alderweireld – and that isn’t going to change anytime soon.

Tottenham’s defence has, arguably, been the strongest facet of their first team in recent months, and so Pochettino is unlikely to change that going forward.

He isn’t a regular, and there is a reason for that.

 Lack of Quality

Kevin Wimmer is a decent player, but the reason why he will never be a regular for Tottenham is that he simply lacks the quality.

Tottenham have an abundance of quality available to them, and Wimmer just isn’t up to par.

He has had an opportunity a few times this season, but he has never had a standout game – and whilst he had a decent first season, he didn’t do enough to warrant a regular spot – and that won’t change going forward.

It would make sense for him to drop down a level and become a starter somewhere else.

 Other Options

We’ve already touched on Wimmer’s lack of game time, but that is only the case because of the quality that Pochettino has available to him.

The back four of Rose, Alderweireld, Vertonghen and Walker is indispensable, leaving no route for a player like Wimmer to get into the first team.

It speaks more highly of the strength of Pochettino’s squad over anything else, but Tottenham’s defence is too good for Wimmer, and he simply must go down a level or 2.
