That’s no longer the case, though. Under Mauricio Pochettino, they’ve established themselves as one of Europe’s most impressive sides, and they proved that against Real Madrid on Tuesday night.

They held their own against one of Europe’s best sides, and they proved their own quality all the while. The future is looking bright for Tottenham.

Strength In Depth

Tottenham were missing Dele Alli against Madrid, but you wouldn’t have noticed it on the night.

Mauricio Pochettino has so many top players in his squad that he can easily lose one or two of them and not feel the effects. When one top player is out, another top player moves in, and that will be crucial as the campaign progresses.

With Danny Rose getting some minutes against the Spanish giants, that depth is only going to grow over the next few weeks.

Fernando Llorente has proven that he is a decent depth option this season, but against Real Madrid, he proved that he can be so much more.
