After a shaky start to their first SPFL campaign, the Rangers fans in the Transfer Tavern have been delighted to see Mark Warburton turn things around. 

Following on from a frantic summer of transfer business, the Gers looked very organised up until recently, though they have sorted things out of late.

While the former Brentford will have surely learnt from his mistakes in trying to make too many changes during the summer, the January transfer market is just around the corner.

It’s clear long term planning is required at Ibrox if they are ever to catch bitter rivals Celtic, so some astute additions to kick off 2017 could help begin next season’s project.

The board have shown a willingness to splash the cash for Warburton in the top flight, so why not start planning ASAP?

With that in mind, here are THREE January transfer deals Rangers should look to tie up within the first week of 2017.

Rushian Hepburn-Murphy

It seems as if, like Celtic did with Moussa Dembele, Rangers will try to attract talented youngsters north of the border as their deals with English clubs wind down.

Jordan Rossiter was one who did that in the summer and the Gers have been linked with Aston Villa forward Rushian Hepburn-Murphy.

Clearly a hugely talented forward, the 18-year-old hasn’t had much game time under Steve Bruce and would represent a major coup.

Jai Quitongo

Impressing in the Scottish Championship, Morton forward Jai Quitongo is another coming to the end of his deal.

The Ton have little hope of keeping the speedster, who has recently been called into the Scotland U21 side, such are the nature of his impressive performances for the club.

If Rangers can move ahead of some English interest, the 19-year-old would be a good option in the years to come.

Diego Fabbrini

Life at Birmingham City hasn’t really taken off as yet for Argentine midfielder Diego Fabbrini, who has featured just five times all season for the Blues.

With a new regime currently in play at St. Andrew’s, perhaps links between the former Watford ace and a move to Ibrox will come to fruition.
