5 players to follow Moussa Sissoko out of Newcastle United this summer

Newcastle United supporters have been drowning their sorrows consistently in the Football Transfer Tavern this season, with 2014-15 yet another campaign the fans will be eager to wipe from their memories.

Sunday saw the Magpies suffer yet another defeat – this time at the hands of Tottenham – whilst supporters protested against owner Mike Ashley prior to the game, with many fans choosing to boycott the fixture altogether.

The Toon announced record profits of more than £18million last week, and fans are unhappy with what they consider to be a lack of investment and ambition in the squad.

John Carver has managed just two victories since succeeding Alan Pardew as interim manager, and there is wholesale change expected on Tyneside in the summer.

France international Moussa Sissoko is expected to be one of the first out the door, with Arsenal said to be preparing a bid.

Here we have identified five more players we think will follow him out of the club this summer.

Tim Krul

Newcastle United v Manchester United - Barclays Premier LeagueIt has hardly been a vintage season for the Dutch international, but that hasn’t stopped a couple of club’s targetting him as a potential replacement goalkeeper this summer.

Tottenham have previously been linked with Krul, and may well be forced into a bid this summer should Hugo Lloris move on to replace David De Gea at Manchester United – with Real Madrid reportedly keen.

Krul has ambitions to earn himself the number one spot for his country, so it would not come as a shock if he attempted to force a move to a club with European ambitions this summer.

Cheick Tiote

Cheick TioteThe Ivorian is a firm favourite amongst Newcastle supporters, however he has been linked with a move away consistently over the past few transfer windows.

With the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester United and Liverpool all on the hunt for a new defensive midfielder in the summer, Newcastle may well find it increasingly difficult to hang onto one of their main men – especially when Tiote can argue he has shown them loyalty when other club’s have shown an interest over the past few years.

Daryl Janmaat

Daryl JanmaatThe Dutchman has been at St James’ Park less than a year having arrived as a replacement for Mathieu Debuchy in the summer.

He has faded during the second half of the season, but that hasn’t stopped Liverpool from reportedly registering an interest.

The Reds are set to lose Glen Johnson in the summer when his contract expires, and Janmaat is said to be their choice to come in as a replacement.

Newcastle have shown little desire to hang onto their top players in recent times, and the idea of making a profit on Janmaat after just a year is something that will surely appeal to Mike Ashley.

Gabriel Obertan

Gabriel ObertanNewcastle fans were unconvinced when the club orignally signed the French winger from Manchester United, and he has done very little to win them over in the time in which he has been at the club.

One bright spot for the Toon this season has been the emergence of teenager Roland Aarons, and fans are hoping to see a lot more of him next term.

Obertan has been in and out of the side this season, making little to no impact on either flank. Newcastle fans are praying his time in English football comes to an end in the summer.

Emmanuel Riviere

Signed for £6million from Monaco last summer, the French striker has simply not settled into English football.

His only goals have come in the Capital One Cup, whilst he is without a goal in 17 Premier League appearances for the Magpies.

Riviere finished last season as Monaco’s top goalscorer, so Geordie fans were hoping he would make some sort of impact at St James’ Park.

Sadly, the move has not worked out at all, and it would be no surprise to see him leave the club in the summer.
