5 things we learnt from Tottenham on transfer deadline day

Adebayor is set to be the main man for the rest of the seasonAnother transfer window has come and gone, and Tottenham found themselves unusually quiet.

The North London club have proved to be one of the Premier League’s biggest and most frequent spenders in recent years, firstly with Harry Redknapp at the helm, and then Andre Villas-Boas’ £100 million summer shopping spree.

Another new manager in Tim Sherwood found himself overseeing the latest transfer window and despite plenty of speculation, Sherwood stuck to his word that there would be no new arrivals at White Hart Lane.

Tottenham have still perhaps been feeling the effects of their summer spending spree, in which chairman Daniel Levy sanctioned moves that cost the club over £100 million, following the world record sale of Gareth Bale to Real Madrid.

The big name signings bought in by Villas-Boas have endured mixed starts to their Tottenham careers, with Roberto Soldado, Etienne Capoue, Erik Lamela and Nacer Chadli all struggling to settle.

But Sherwood has shown a willingness to work with what he has got, and has made an impressive start to his Tottenham career.

It remains to be seen whether they have enough to make the top four this season, and whether their lack of transfer activity this month will prove to be costly.
