The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern want to see Mauricio Pochettino gamble this summer…

The Argentine has had a lot of success when it comes to transfers since he moved to North London, with the likes of Dele Alli and Eric Dier being plucked from obscurity and turned into superstars in London.

Lately, Tottenham have had far more success signing unknown players than they have with recognised names, and this is something that Pochettino must look to continue this summer.

What’s more, when it comes to players already at the club, the Argentine has a couple of big decisions to make – and it might just be time to take a few gambles.

After all, this season hasn’t exactly gone to plan – and Tottenham need to up their game next season.

With that said, here are 5 transfer gambles Tottenham should take this summer…

 Big Name Striker

Harry Kane is a great forward, but it might be time to buy a top backup.

This is a risk, as signing a big name could disrupt Kane – and could even see him sidelined. Likewise, spending a lot of money just to sign a backup is a risk in of itself.

However, big sides need options – and Janssen simply isn’t a good enough option.

 Sell Ben Davies

Tottenham don’t have a lot of defensive depth, and so to sell one would, undoubtedly, be a huge risk.

However, the strength of their first choices – notably Rose, Vertonghen, Alderweireld and Walker – means that back-ups rarely get a chance.

Ben Davies has been patiently awaiting his chance, but it rarely comes unless an injury occurs. This is not a good situation for him to be in, and given his homegrown status – Tottenham could fetch a pricey sum for him.

A replacement will be needed, but they could surely make some profit.

Swap Rose and Shaw

This would certainly be bold.

Danny Rose is a top player, but with Man Utd reportedly keen – could the Lilywhites gamble on him?

Rose’s only real competition for the left-back spot with England is Luke Shaw, and the Englishman is struggling at present.

At just 21-years-old, though, Shaw has the potential to become one of the world’s best – and given that Mourinho doesn’t seem to rate him, Pochettino could make the most of that situation.

If Pochettino can sell Rose for Luke Shaw, plus a bit of change, he might be worth the gamble.

Sell Michel Vorm

It is important to have an experienced back-up, but it is time for Pochettino to gamble on Pau Lopez.

There is no point having a young player as a 3rd choice, and given that Tottenham set to sign Lopez permanently, Pochettino must move on Vorm.

It’s a risk, as Lopez is inexperienced, but he must trust Lopez.

Gamble on Youth

It is always a risk to gamble on youth, but Pochettino has made a living out of it.

Dele All is the most notable example, but Pochettino needs to continue utilising young players – as it has proven to have a positive effect on Tottenham.

With Harry Winks waiting in the wings, it is time for Tottenham to go for it and fully unleash him.
