So far in this transfer window, West Ham have brought in central defender Papa Diop and goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski to strengthen the club’s backline.
And now, according to the Telegraph, the Hammers have had a £12m bid rejected for West Brom centre-half Craig Dawson, who Transfermarkt have valued at £7.2m. On top of Diop, Manuel Pellegrini also has Winston Reid and Angelo Ogbonna to choose from for central defence, but the east London club’s rejected offer for Dawson suggests that the former Manchester City manager isn’t entirely content with his options.
However, if Pellegrini does intend to bring Dawson to the London Stadium, the Telegraph have speculated that the West Ham hierarchy will need to fork out £20m for the 28-year-old.
During his time at West Brom in the Premier League, Dawson has shown that he’s a very sturdy defender, capable of causing the opposition real harm from set pieces. But £20m seems a bit too much for someone who isn’t or that much of an upgrade on what West Ham already have.
Dawson, though, could still very much be a good squad player. And if West Ham can negotiate West Brom’s asking price down, then it may be a deal worth pursuing.
Take a look at what West Ham fans think on Dawson’s potential transfer to the London Stadium below…
Absolutely not worth it. Don't pay that for him. Go back with a 5m offer cos that's what he's worth. Tops

Mawson is better

I’d rather we just properly targeted Alfie Mawson. I like Dawson, but didn’t realise he was 28 now! https://t.co/NQegnSVyJv

7-10 million max, not worth the time

Definitely no better than what we have. How can we possibly look at spending 12 million plus on someone who’s a lesser player than ginge who we just binned. Backward step imo
