Anti Stratford Campaign Gathers Momentum

In a decision that is open to interpretation, Boris Johnson has sanctioned (subject to all the usual protocols) Spurs’ redevelopment of White Hart Lane. This of course does not suddenly mean Stratford is out of the equation.

But it might suggest that the Mayor’s office were seeking to be seen to being fair and at least leaving THFC with an option when they decline the Olympic stadium redevelopment proposal.

And it’s the idea of Stratford that has some fans up in arms.

Tim Framp, who has gathered more than 2,00o signatories including local parliamentarian David Lammy to an online petition “Say No to ‘Stratford Hotspur,'” has set up a ‘We are N17’ Facebook group with some 1800 odd members.

The demonstrators aim to hand out 20,000 flyers before Sunday’s home match against Liverpool as well as organise a march down Tottenham High Street ahead of the game with champions Chelsea on December 12.

‘Spurs is really embedded in the community. Tottenham is quite a deprived area and by pulling out the long-term outlook for that area is relatively bleak. It’s quite bleak anyway we don’t want to go anywhere else, it’s all about staying in Tottenham,” said Framp, whose group have also prepared posters and a website.
‘If the club stays, it encourages people into the area. It’s about keeping the club where it belongs really. Football clubs represent the area where they were formed. By moving you disconnect the club from the history that it has built up until now.’

Well now, when it comes to football, one man has for many years been the most noticeable, the most controversial, and occasionally the most successful blogger this country has ever produced. His pithy words and abrasive style make him as famous off the pitch as he is on it. This man is Escapini. "I love football. Football she's a cruel mistress. She's, she's more than a mistress. She's a wife, she's a mother, she's a daughter, she's an errant child. She's a… she's a… she can make you laugh, she make you cry. She can bring tears me eyes. She can bring blood to me shoulders. She can bring a kettle to the boil." "Cause football is about nothing, unless it's about something and what it is about, is football."
