Arsenal’s season continues to gather momentum on multiple fronts, with Mikel Arteta’s side firmly establishing themselves as one of Europe’s standout teams.
The Gunners are already through to the Champions League last 16, hold a six-point advantage at the top of the Premier League table, and remain alive in the FA Cup.
There is also silverware firmly in sight. Arsenal will face Manchester City in the EFL Cup final on February 22, with the chance to lift their first major trophy in six years and underline the progress made under Arteta.
While the focus is naturally on the present, Arsenal’s recruitment plans for the future are clearly ticking along in the background. Strengthening the attack remains a priority heading into the summer window — and the club have now been handed a significant boost in their pursuit of one long-term target.
Arsenal Receive Alvarez Boost
Arsenal’s hopes of landing Julian Alvarez have been lifted by fresh developments on the continent, with Bayern Munich now reportedly out of the race for the Atletico Madrid forward.
The Gunners have been consistently linked with the Argentina international and are understood to be open to major squad changes in order to finance a summer move. Reports suggest Arsenal could be prepared to move on two players as part of a wider strategy to fund a deal.
According to CF Bayern Insider, the Bundesliga giants are no longer pursuing Alvarez, removing one of Arsenal’s most serious rivals and giving Arteta’s side a clearer run at the striker.
Since arriving at Atletico Madrid from Manchester City in the summer of 2024, Alvarez — once labelled “special” by Pep Guardiola — has produced elite numbers. The 26-year-old has scored 40 goals and registered 14 assists across 87 competitive appearances, including 11 goals this season alone.
Despite being under contract in Madrid until 2030, Alvarez’s future remains uncertain, with Atletico aware of growing interest from several top clubs across Europe. The Spanish side are reportedly holding out for a fee in excess of £86 million to even consider a sale.
That figure is undeniably hefty, but Arsenal may view it as a worthwhile investment. Alvarez brings proven Premier League experience, elite-level pressing, and a consistent goal return at the highest level — qualities that could elevate an already formidable Arsenal side as they look to sustain domestic dominance and push deeper into Europe next season.
