Leeds United: Fans reflect on Patrick Bamford’s key moment in Derby County draw

Loads of Leeds United supporters have been using social media to reflect on Patrick Bamford’s key moment from the Whites’ Championship draw with Derby County on Saturday.

Bamford led the line for Marcelo Bielsa’s Elland Road natives when the Rams visited the West Yorkshire outfit on matchday eight, but failed to add to his four league goals for the term (WhoScored) against Phillip Cocu’s Pride Park side.

The former Middlesbrough striker is now without a successful strike to his name in the second-tier since firing past Adam Federici in the 66th minute away to Stoke City on August 24 – 234 minutes of play ago.

Grantham-born Bamford enjoyed a range of opportunities to end his drought on Saturday, with the 26-year-old attempting five shots on Kelle Roos’ net, but only saw one hit the target and force the 27-year-old shot-stopper into a save.

Three of Bamford’s other four strikes were marked as being off-target by WhoScored, who noted that the two-time England U21 international also misplaced 29% of his 17 attempted passes, won a third of his three aerial duels, and completed his only attempted dribble.

Bamford’s sole shot to hit the post has been the focus of attention for many Leeds fans’ though, as the forward was presented with a glorious chance to break the goal line in the 46th minute when Stuart Dallas was given plenty of space on the edge of the box to drill the ball across to his teammate.

Bamford met Dallas’ cross with a short run to the near post, but failed to direct the ball goal-bound with his outstretched left foot, and was left agonisingly watching on as it rolled into the base of the post as Roos scrambled into the centre.

Had he converted his chance, Leeds would have taken a 2-0 lead after Derby right-back Max Lowe scored an own goal in the 20th minute. However, Bielsa’s hosts would go on to drop two points when Chris Martin struck a stoppage-time equaliser.

Here are some of the reactions shared by Whites supporters reflecting on Bamford’s effort in the 46th minute…
