Dan Ashworth Was In Portugal: €7M Rated Loan Deal In The Balance

Roy Hodgson will make decisions in January

West Bromwich Albion manager Roy Hodgson is looking to add some more creativity to his squad with a possible loan move for FC Porto winger Cristian Rodriguez.

The Baggies snapped up Dundee United starlet Scott Allan this week and now Hodgson has identified Rodriguez as his next target.

West Brom sporting director Dan Ashworth was in Portugal last week to watch the 26-year old and it is thought Porto are happy to loan him out until the end of the season.

With Chris Brunt and Zolton Gera out with long-term injuries, Hogdson has moved quickly to line up replacements and although Cardiff’s Peter Whittingham has also been mentioned, Uruguay international Rodriguez is his preferred option.

Rodriguez had played for Paris Saint-Germain and Benfica before moving to Porto for €7million in 2008. He is a fleet-footed winger who is nicknamed ‘Cebolla’ (Spanish for onion), for his ability to make opponents cry.

West Brom are currently in 15th in the Premier League and are in danger of being dragged into a relegation battle so whether Rodriguez would want to move remains to be seen.
