Drop them: Benitez must axe these 2 players from today’s starting Newcastle XI against Birmingham

Newcastle United will be hoping to bounce back this weekend against Birmingham City, following a heavy and humbling defeat against Fulham last time out.

Manager Rafa Benitez will be looking to get their title push back on track, and the Toon Army here in the Transfer Tavern are confident three points can be achieved against a lacklustre looking Birmingham City side.

Talk over a the pool table this week has centred very much around team selection and if Benitez will make the appropriate changes in order to secure the three points against the Blues.

With the manner of the defeat last time out, Newcastle will be looking to get well and truly back on track and pip Brighton to the title in the Championship.

So, with this in mind, we take a look at TWO players who Rafa Benitez could look to drop today…

Mo Diame

The powerful central midfielder was withdrawn in the second half against Fulham, and Benitez might well opt to go with a more attacking option this week and play a second striker.

Diame has been pretty good for most of the season, but with three points a must this weekend, then the chance to play a second striker could be too good for Benitez to pass up on.

Christian Atsu

The on loan winger could well find his place under threat with Newcastle having so many options on their bench.

With Ayoze Perez sat waiting for a chance in the first team, Atsu could be the one who makes way for the Spaniard.
