Drop them: Bruce must axe these 2 players from today’s starting Villa XI against Wigan

Aston Villa head into today’s game with Wigan on the back of an excellent 2-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday last time out.

A double from big money summer signing Jonathan Kodjia sent Villa fans here in the Transfer Tavern into raptures, and talk over at the bar here in the Tavern this week has been around if Bruce will go with the same eleven this weekend.

The Villa fans will be hopeful of taking another three points against relegation threatened Wigan, and Bruce himself will also be hopeful of adding three points to his sides total as he looks to close the season out in good form.

All eyes will be on team selection once again for Bruce, and we think he might well opt to make a few changes to the line-up today.

With this in mind, we take a look at TWO Villa players who Bruce could look to axe from today’s starting eleven…

Nathan Baker

Baker was taken off in the first half through injury against the Owls, and he could well make way again depending on the severity of his injury.

Alan Hutton came on to replace him last time out, and it could well be that Bruce goes for this change from the start against the Latics today.

Gary Gardner

The central midfielder could well find himself moved out depending on the form or injury status of a few other players in the squad, with Henri Lansbury missing the last game for the Villans.

Gardner has not exactly done a lot wrong, but with a bench full of young talent as well as other experienced members of the squad vying for a starting place, Bruce might well choose to make the change in the middle of the park.
