Everton: Beto bid rejected in ‘final days’ of January window

Everton: Beto bid rejected in 'final days' of January window - Everton News

Everton had a bid for Udinese striker Beto rejected in the ‘final days’ of the January window, according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano.

The Lowdown: Underwhelming window

The Toffees sold Anthony Gordon to Premier League rivals Newcastle last month and pocketed £45m to go out and buy a suitable replacement, but the hierarchy failed to complete this task.

The Merseyside outfit didn’t bring a single player to Goodison Park for Sean Dyche to increase his chances of avoiding relegation, though a significant update has now emerged on an attempted late pursuit of the 25-year-old.

The Latest: Beto offer declined

Taking to Twitter, Romano relayed quotes from Udinese’s director Marino, who revealed that his club turned down a last-minute offer for Beto, with the journalist confirming that it was submitted by Everton.

“Udinese director Marino: ‘I can confirm that our owners — Pozzo family — have turned down an important, huge bid for Beto at the end of January’.

“The bid was from Everton in the final days of the window.

“Udinese feel they could sell Beto in July.”

The Verdict: Worth another attempt

Everton may have failed to sign Beto in their initial approach, but with the news that Udinese are open to letting him go in the summer, it’s definitely worth making a second attempt.

The Portuguese giant has scored seven goals and provided two assists in all competitions this season, with two man-of-the-match awards to his name.

Standing at 6 foot 4, he would also be the ideal target man for Dyche and is already a huge physical presence, averaging 2.2 aerial wins per 90 minutes.

Beto has been described as a ‘Lukaku-esque’ striker by talent scout Jacek Kulig and he could be the exact profile of forward that the Blues have been searching for.
