Everton are reportedly pushing to sign former Manchester United forward Adnan Januzaj this summer, according to Spanish sources

The lowdown: A career rekindled

Once tipped for greatness in the Premier League and likened to Cristiano Ronaldo, Januzaj has taken a rather inauspicious career path up to this point.

The 27-year-old spent time at Borussia Dortmund and Sunderland before landing at La Liga outfit Real Sociedad, where the Belgium international has managed to recapture some of the early promise he showed at Old Trafford as a teenager.

Now a free agent after the expiry of his contract in Spain, the trio of Napoli, Sevilla and West Ham are thought to be vying for Januzaj's signature, but it's the interest from Goodison Park which has come into renewed focus...

The latest: On Lampard's request

As per the reports from Spain, Everton are preparing to launch with 'everything' in an attempt to sign the 15-cap Belgian.

It's claimed that Januzaj is an 'express request' from Frank Lampard as the 44-year-old attempts to add much-needed strength in depth to the ranks on Merseyside.

The report also states that the Toffees have 'already had the first contacts' with the entourage of the forward, who was previously hailed as a 'very special' performer by reporter David Cartlidge.

The verdict: Make it happen

Having already been linked with moves for Maxwel Cornet, Armando Broja and Emmanuel Dennis, it appears as though Lampard and Farhad Moshiri are desperate to refresh the attack after losing Richarlison and following a disappointing pre-season so far.

While Januzaj may have struggled to live up to the hype brought about by those lofty early expectations, signing a player of the Belgian's calibre in what is now the peak of his career would be a superb piece of business from Everton, particularly on a free transfer.

Last season, the versatile attacking midfielder scored five times and provided three assists in 45 appearances across all competitions, earning an impressive 6.81 Sofascore rating whilst completing 1.4 dribbles, making one key pass and taking 1.3 shots per game in the Spanish top flight.

With 75 Premier League outings already under his belt and sharing similar stylistic qualities to Lucas Moura, Raphinha and current Toffees ace Demarai Gray (FBRef), the £10.8m-valued livewire presents a high-class, low-risk option for Lampard, and it would be no surprise to see Everton's interest materialise into something more substantial over the ensuing days.
