Everton: Toffees interested in signing Viktor Gyokeres - Everton News

Everton are interested in signing Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres before the transfer deadline, according to a recent report.

The Lowdown: Everton eyeing Gyokeres

Coventry manager Mark Robins dismissed any suggestion of the Swedish marksman leaving the Sky Blues in the January transfer window, telling Coventry Live that there is ‘no chance’ that the 24-year-old departs, although interest in his services has persisted.

Reporter Alex Crook told GIVEMESPORT that Wolverhampton Wanderers were one of the clubs eyeing the striker earlier this month, while Dean Jones also strongly linked Everton with a move, which could now be on the cards.

The Latest: Dyche is a fan

According to Football League World, the Toffees are interested in signing the 24-year-old before the January transfer window shuts, and they are likely to have a decent budget available, with Anthony Gordon agreeing a £45m move to Newcastle United.

It is also detailed that Sean Dyche – who is set to be appointed imminently as Everton’s new manager – is an admirer of the Sweden international, with the Sky Blues said to be holding out for a fee of £18m to let him leave.

The Verdict: Get it done

It is no wonder that Robins is so reluctant to allow Gyokeres to leave, given that the 53-year-old lauded him as being ‘unbelievable‘ earlier this season while also praising him for his power and technique.

The former Swansea City man has netted on 12 occasions in 27 Championship appearances this term, while he has also recently started to display his creative side, helping himself to an assist in their last match against Norwich City.

The top-flight’s second-lowest scorers with just 15 goals, Everton clearly need some new options in forward areas, especially after their deal to sign Arnaut Danjuma was hijacked at the death by Tottenham, and Gyokeres would appear to be a very good addition.

However, his £18m price tag is quite high considering that he is unproven in the Premier League, and the Toffees should try to negotiate a lower fee.
